Principal’s Report
Thank you for joining us for our second newsletter for the year.
I would like to begin with a huge thank you to all of the parents that made the effort following my message in the last newsletter to make contributions towards their child’s education, by paying for their relevant maths, spelling and Resilience Project resources. We had a considerable surge in the number of parents that made these payments, and this has gone a long way towards covering the costs of these programs. We will continue to send reminders to those parents still yet to pay.
The Resilience Project
I have been so impressed by both the program and the engagement of our students and staff in the program. The main messages that the students are working with are centred around Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. Why not ask your child about these three key areas and what they are doing in school around them?
Much of the work related to empathy is centred around emotional literacy. This is where children learn how to name their emotions. By being able to name their emotions, we can find out why they feel the way they do and then get them to develop strategies when they feel that way. I am certain some of your children will be coming home and making comments about this. Engage them in conversations about this. I have been doing this with my own kids (aged 17-25) with awesome results. I can’t remember the last time we all talked so much together!
Sending Money to the Canteen
Although we love the fact that parents support our canteen which is run so well by our P&C, there are a couple of things we would love parents to consider.
- Please make sure your child knows if they have a lunch order. Often, younger children especially, will find they do not have food in their lunch box and simply go without because they did not know there was an order from the canteen.
- If you are sending your child to school with cash to spend at the canteen, please do not send them with large amounts of money such as $50 notes. This provides an issue in terms of them keeping the money safe, but also with not knowing how much of the money they are allowed to spend.
Our canteen provides excellent food, at a price well below what you will find in other school canteens. This is a massive positive for our school and a service I would strongly recommend you using.
Building Program Update
Our building program is currently on track, with the drainage on the oval in place and ready for connection. You will start to see some movement of soil as well around the basketball courts, as the soil is replaced with clean fill suitable for the foundations of the building.
Work is also being undertaken through the school as power and water connections are managed. This is a massive undertaking, and our students and staff have been amazing in recognising the short-term pain for long term gain.

Empowering Families

The Resilience Project - Parent/Carer Hub
We are so excited to share all things The Resilience Project (TRP) with you this year! Our whole school has started practising Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness (GEM) each day and we are already starting to have some great discussions. Throughout the year we will be sharing our TRP journey with you via Connect, our newsletter and on our Facebook page - so make sure you are fully connected so that you don't miss a thing!
Below is the link to the parent/carer hub, where you will find lots of great information about the program and how we can work together to practise GEM in our everyday lives.

Fergus is back at RCC!
Our gorgeous Story Dog Fergus is back at work after the long school holidays! He had been champing at the bit to get back to our school and check in with all his friends and get down to business and read some great books with some new students this year.
He has already spent a wonderful morning with Rrain, from Mrs Warren’s class and recently he had a great time reading with Hunter in Year 2.
We love Fergus and our students are so excited to see him and his handler Pat each week.

Crochet Club Creations
Crochet Club is proving a hit with the students. It is so wonderful to see young people trying their hand at learning a new skill and making some wonderful pieces. Crochet Club runs every Thursday lunchtime in T1.4 (the secondary Drama Room) after the eating bell. Bring your own work-in-progress, or there are a few spare items to borrow. Check out some of our regulars with their fibre arts.
Mrs Callaway

Assembly PP-Yr 3 Thursday 27 Feb
(Hosted by Rm 4.3 Yr 2)
The Year 2 students from Room 4.3 were the first class to perform at an assembly this year. They did an awesome performance of Possum Magic as part of their narrative Talk for Writing Unit. The students made masks and created a collaborative map of Australia. The Year 2’s created their own actions to go with the story and spoke the text clearly and loudly. Congratulations Room 4.3 on your excellent performance.
Ms Longyear

Merit Certificates
Congratulations to all our students who received a Merit Certificate. Keep up the good work!

Assembly Yrs 4-6 Thursday 6 March
(Hosted by Rm 5.3 Yr 5/6)
Over the past few weeks, Room 5.3, along with Rooms 5.2 and 5.8, have been studying the life and times of Hercules—the most famous and beloved hero of ancient times. Our class had a great time creating our own version of his story for our assembly performance. This required building our confidence up, improving our voice projection, and learning about body language—all crucial skills for public speaking and key elements of our English curriculum. The process brought us closer as a group as we gradually became more comfortable with each other, built trust, and had fun singing, dancing, and adding a touch of humour to keep our performance entertaining!

Self-Portraits!
Kindy 2 have spent the last few weeks wondering “What we look like?”
We used mirrors to explore our facial features and practiced how we could draw them. We’ve painted and played with our loose parts to learn all about what we look like.
We are making sure we include all our body parts and features that make us unique!
Our drawings have developed detail, and in my opinion, all look adorable!
Mrs Ashboth
Kindy Teacher

Humpty Dumpty!
Oh no! Humpty Dumpty fell off the wall! The Kindy’s were busy doing their morning fitness when we spotted something oval! Humpty had left us a story to learn! The story told us about how he was busy waving to the King and fell off the wall! The King’s horseman had a red ribbon to help put him back together again. He looked stylish!
Over the next few weeks, the Kindy’s will be talking about what a story needs. The story that Humpty left us has great words which we hope to use when we re-tell our stories.
Mrs Ashboth and Mrs Cirillo

Letters and Sounds
In Pre-primary Room 2.2 we have been learning about sounds. This week, we learned the ‘R, r’ sound for rocket, rat and robot. We wrote sentences on our whiteboards with words that begin with ‘R, r’. We are so amazing.
Ms Mantell

Room 2.1 is a GEM Hub!
Every day we start with our Resilience Project activities. We have been learning about the different emotions that we experience in our life. We also know that our emotions can change during the day.
We have also identified the different things that make us feel happy at school.
We have enjoyed showing different emotions on our faces!
Mrs Brookes
Room 2.5 DigiTech
On Tuesday afternoon four students from the Ignite program joined us to help us with our DigiTech lesson. This week we were learning about being safe online. We sang the 'Cyber Safe Internet Safety Song', and then brainstormed ideas for our posters with our Ignite helpers.
Thank you, Sofia, Laura, Skye and Francesca, we always look forward to your visits.
Christine Heavey

Maths, Science and Resilience in Year 1
We have been very busy learning in Room 2.6 over the past weeks. In Mathematics we have been learning about measuring length and mass. We measured the length of our hops using pop sticks. In Science we compared live worms with gummy worms. We found lots of things that were the same and different. In The Resilience Project we have been learning to identify our emotions. We made 'body maps' to show all of the clues our body gives us when we are feeling different emotions.
Ms Moon

Room 4.3 Year 2 - Self Portraits
We have been learning about the elements of art. We have found out about primary and secondary colours and hot and cold colours. The students watched a video on how to draw a face and then drew their own self-portraits. Here are some our works.
Ms Longyear

Resilience in Room 4.2
In room 4.2 we love The Resilience Project and have had a great time watching Hugh’s videos, starting our journals and discussing our feelings. We strive to make good choices in our classroom and be empathetic to our classmates. We love the fingerprint art on our windows demonstrating all the different emotions we experience.
Mrs Warren

Exploring Heat in Year 3 Room 4.6
We’ve been busy exploring many different aspects of heat.
We’ve realised that every BODY is actually a heat producer, discovered the joy of hot-water bottles and even attempted to change the world with Solar Tea. Our first attempt didn’t work (the sun’s too far away), but we have another plan we’re designing for next week!
Stay Tuned.
Mrs Norman’s Year 3s

Science in Room 4.5!
This term the Year 3 students in Room 4.5 have been learning all about heat energy. Students have learnt that heat transfers from one object to another, and that this can be done through convection, conduction and radiation. The children participated in an experiment where they explored different ways to heat a metal spoon! They had so much fun and learnt a lot about the heating process.
Ms Morton

Room 5.5 with Mrs Crocker
We have been very busy bees in our class this term. Here are a few snapshots of some learning activities in our room:
- HASS: Early Explorers – Spice Up Your World!
In HASS we learned about Vasco da Gama and Ferdinand Magellan, two early explorers of the world. They went out in search of safe travel routes to find exotic spices and other riches to bring back to their countries. We travelled the classroom to find spices and plotted their routes and locations on our own maps.
- Science – Forces - Superhero Forces Challenges
We are learning about the forces of friction, gravity, air resistance and magnetism. We completed superhero challenges to explore and learn about these super forces!
- Friction games
In Science we also made our own game that used friction in some way. Some of us made Friction Flyers, Marble Runs and Shuffleboard games. We played our games and explained how friction helped them to work.
- Superhero Capes
In Science we investigated air resistance by testing out the drop speed of different shaped capes.
Mrs Crocker

Do Gases have Mass? - Science in Year Five
In Science, Room 5.6 and 5.7 students became young scientists as they investigated whether gases have mass. Using a simple but exciting experiment, they mixed vinegar and bicarbonate of soda in a bottle, creating a chemical reaction that produced carbon dioxide. As the gas formed, it inflated a balloon placed over the bottle’s opening.
To test if the gas had mass, students carefully weighed the bottle and balloon before and after the reaction. Through their observations and measurements, they discovered that the total weight increased slightly, proving that gases, though invisible, do have mass!
Ms Yaksich

Travel in Year 5!
In Rooms 5.6 and 5.7, we’ve embarked on an exciting challenge to see if we can catch a flight to every capital city in Australia within 48 hours!
Alongside this adventure, we’ve been diving into the fascinating world of particles in solids, liquids, and gases.
Ms Kell

Drama News
I am excited to share what the students have been working on in their Drama lessons over the past few weeks! Here’s a brief overview of each year group’s focus:
Year 1
The Year 1 students have been exploring the different parts of a theatre and have gone back in time to learn about the very first theatres and performers in Ancient Greece. They’ve had a great time participating in the ‘Mask Swap’ activity, where they became a character by wearing a mask and then swapped to become a completely new character, helping them understand the power of transformation in performance.
Year 2 and 3
The focus for Years 2 and 3 has been on setting and how important it is in storytelling. Students have been examining what we see, hear, and smell in different settings, as well as understanding how various voice qualities—such as pitch, pace, volume, and tone—affect a performance. This has allowed them to bring their scenes to life with more vivid details and expressive voices.
Year 4
In Year 4, students have been delving into movement and body language. Through mime exercises, they’ve practiced conveying emotions and actions purely through their bodies, focusing on using physicality to tell a story. This skill is crucial in helping them develop their non-verbal storytelling techniques.
Year 5
The Year 5 students have been exploring improvisation. In these sessions, they’ve been given specific settings, opening lines, or characters, and tasked with creating a performance on the spot. This has helped them build confidence in thinking quickly, responding to their peers, and being creative with little to no rehearsal.
Year 6
The Year 6 students have been working on creating detailed backstories for their characters. They’ve focused on expressing these characters through movement, vocal techniques, and their relationships with others, often through improvisation. This has allowed them to build deeper, more complex characters and explore different ways of expressing emotions and intentions.
I am so proud of the progress each year group has made, and it’s wonderful to see their creativity and confidence growing in Drama.

Indonesian at RCC
Selamat pagi!
As we settle into Term 1, we would like to let parents and students know that we would love them to be able to practice their Indonesian online using an app which is available for Windows, IOS or Android called Languages Online which we use to support our Indonesian teaching. This is available from https://www.education.vic.gov.au/languagesonline/legacy/default.htm or via app stores. This is from Victoria but is used Australia wide. It is a very helpful resource to practice and support your Indonesian language learning journey.
Sampai jumpa di kelas Bahasa Indonesia.

Interhouse Swimming Carnival - Yr 4 to 10
Swimming Carnival Success!
The Swimming Carnival on Wednesday of Week 5 was packed with fun, friendly competition, and unforgettable moments. Students pushed themselves in the 50m races, while others enjoyed battling their friends in the novelty events.
Even the staff and parents got involved - Mr Burns took on Year 9 student Lucas Rampling in a thrilling 50m Butterfly race, and the staff/parent relay team tried to prove themselves against the Year 9/10 helpers. The highlight of the day? A record-breaking Macarena line at lunchtime!

Roll Up! Roll Up! The Circus is in Town!
Drumroll please! The Year 7 Drama students have been exploring the world of the circus. The past few weeks have seen them practice their clowning skills, and it turns out, they are all the class clown! Fits of laughter can be heard when they are showing off their silly walks, pratfalls (choreographed safe falls), juggling and balloon animals. Soon we will move onto acrobatics and ringmasters. All these skills will culminate in a circus performance for their peers.

7.1 Ignite News

This term, in Ignite, the students are working on the Hobby section of the program. Their SMART Goal was to “Learn a new skill each week”. So far, they have made slime, cooked tacos, created leaf boats and painted pet rocks. The following photographs are of the students with their inspiration plus the final product.

A Fantastic Start to the Year in the Arts!
A big thank you to all the staff and students for making me feel so welcome as the new Arts teacher! It has been amazing to see the creativity and enthusiasm students bring into their projects. With so much talent and energy in the classroom, I’m excited to see all the incredible work that will be created this year. Each newsletter, we will shine a spotlight on different year groups to celebrate their achievements and showcase their incredible work.
This time, we’re featuring:
Year 7 Visual Arts!
Year 7 – Elements Explosion!
Year 7 students have kicked off their Visual Arts journey with a dynamic project called Elements Explosion. Through hands-on experimentation, they have been exploring the seven elements of art - line, shape, colour, value, texture, space, and form.
Building on their discoveries, students put their skills to the test by creating structured drawings of Coca-Cola bottles or Monster Energy cans, incorporating as many elements of art as possible. The challenge encouraged them to think critically about composition, contrast, and creative expression while refining their drawing techniques.
The results have been nothing short of impressive, with students producing bold, expressive, and highly detailed artworks. It’s been fantastic to see their confidence grow as they experiment with different artistic styles.
Keep up the amazing work!
